The Committee on Jewish Studies was approved by the Senate of the University as a degree-granting body in 1995 with the power to award first the M.A. and then the Ph.D. in selected areas of Jewish Studies. For strategic reasons, the University decided in 2006 to suspend acceptance of new students to the Ph.D. and M.A. programs offered by the Committee and to concentrate its resources on graduate education in Jewish Studies within departmental graduate programs. New prospective students should apply to departments, committees, or to the Divinity School for admission to their graduate programs.
