Prof. Anat Feinberg appointed as the Patinkin Visiting Professor in Israel Studies

Anat Feinberg of the Hochschule für jüdische Studien in Heidelberg has been appointed as the June and Harold Patinkin Visiting Professor in Israel Studies for Spring Quarter 2017.

Prof. Feinberg is teaching a course for advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students entitled "Modern Israeli Literature and Culture." This course invites students to explore major themes in modern Israeli literature and to examine how these themes are linked to the social and cultural dynamics of Israeli history and contemporary life. Some of the themes that are being addressed are: the making of an “old-new” language (or: Hebrew vs. “Israeli”); the fashioning of a new national identity; Holocaust and remembrance; encountering ‘the Arab’; reading Biblical episodes in a new light; and the Israeli “at home” (with a focus on urban and kibbutz life).

The class is being held on Mondays/Wednesdays from 3:00 – 4:20 pm.
